STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH INTERNSHIP

The Persistence Athletics internship program is an incredible learning opportunity that will dramatically improve your coaching skills. The internship is a hands-on, learn-by-doing-based program in which you will be coaching all age individual athletes, as well as adult/general fitness clientele. You will also have opportunities to observe and assist professional athletes as they prepare for their seasons.    Our comprehensive curriculum includes weekly staff meetings and education sessions to enhance your overall learning experience. Our goal for you is to develop a deep understanding of the in’s, out’s, and why’s of our programming and coaching methodology in addition to acquiring valuable knowledge from all aspects of the strength and conditioning field. You will have the opportunity to apply for an assistant S&C coach full-time job at the end of the internship.

Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and coaching the warm-up (Foam Rolling, Mobility, Activation, Dynamic Movement, Light Implement Power Work, Plyometric Exercise, Speed/COD training)
  • Strength Training Instruction (Heavy Implement Power Work, Fundamental Strength Development, Motor Control/Stability Training and more)
  • Conditioning (Running, Biking, Slide boarding, overall energy system development)
  • Gym set up and breakdown, daily housekeeping tasks.
  • Attendance at weekly education events, creation/development of presentation discussing learning experience from the internship program.

Expectation:

Tracking client progress – To ensure a client’s success in our programs, you’ll need to track our progress, current successes and challenges, review client nutrition and exercise log worksheets, and more on a weekly and monthly basis. It will be your job to hold a client accountable to his/her health and fitness program to ensure the best results possible.

Perform fitness evaluations- Ideally, you’ll have some fitness assessment skills and can test for: body composition, body weight, girth measurements, blood pressure, heart rate, and various strength and flexibility tests. You do not need previous experience, but if you do, that’s a bonus.

Coach clients through fitness and workout programs- You’ll be responsible for weekly exercise sessions and keeping detailed weekly progress reports on the clients you’re working with. If a client is having challenges throughout his/her program, you’ll coach and motivate them, and make appropriate changes to ensure consistent progress. You will work with clients 1-1, in small groups, and in large groups. We will teach you the ropes of the sessions.

Demonstrate proper exercise instruction – This is a big one. I need you to be able to provide proper coaching, instruction, and motivation during a client training session. You should have a working knowledge of the human body (i.e., muscles, movements, functions, etc.), and be able to provide appropriate exercises for the client’s goals.

 

Provide ongoing health and fitness education – Our clients rely on us to service all their health and fitness needs. It is your job as a fitness coach to provide your clients with health and fitness education on various topics that empower them to lead healthy lives forever. You’ll be provided with educational tools and resources, be expected to study them, and speak about them with your clients.

Internship schedule and Pay.

  • Spring:
    • March 1st, 2021 to June 9th, 2021
    • Application Deadline February 22, 2021
  • Paid Internship :$20/hour and up to 20 hours per week

Requirements

+ Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree required in Exercise Science or a related field and 2 years of full-time coaching experience.

+ Required CSCS or CCFT

+ Experience in coaching 10+ athletes in S&C sessions.

+Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the subject matter.

+Interested in learning new models and techniques.

+Committed to the betterment of the organization.
