Who CrossFit at Persistence is for

Most of our CrossFit members are busy professionals working in tech (Amazon, Microsoft, startups, consulting) and Belltown residents who want a smarter alternative to grinding alone at a globo gym. We see software engineers fixing chronic back pain, data scientists building their first real strength base, founders adding 100 lbs to their squat in six months, and weekend league cricketers using CrossFit to add bowling pace.

We also see people who have never set foot in a CrossFit affiliate. Maybe you tried Orangetheory and got bored. Maybe Planet Fitness left you with no idea what to do once you got there. Maybe you ran a marathon in your twenties and want to get strong at 38 without breaking yourself. CrossFit at Persistence is built so all of those people train side-by-side - same workout, scaled differently, finishing in the same window.

We are not the right gym for someone who wants to record TikToks of their Romanian deadlifts in front of a mirror. We are coached, structured, and intentional. If you want a community of people who actually show up, that is what is here.

How a typical CrossFit class runs

Every class is 60 minutes and follows the same structure: a coach-led warm-up, a strength or skill block, the workout of the day (the WOD), and a cooldown. You walk in, the day's workout is on the whiteboard with two or three scaling tracks, and the coach walks the room to set you up.

The strength block typically rotates on a multi-week cycle: squat variations one block, pulling variations another, pressing in a third. We program in real periodization - linear progression for newer lifters, percentage-based prescriptions for intermediates, block periodization for advanced. You are not just doing random workouts. There is a plan, and the plan reflects where you are in the cycle.

The WOD changes daily and pulls from CrossFit's full toolbox: weightlifting, gymnastics, monostructural cardio (rowing, ski, bike, run). It might be 8 minutes hard, it might be 30 minutes steady. The coach sets your scale and watches your form. You finish, you cool down, you go to work.

Your first 30 days

Days 1-3: Free first class. A coach gives you a 1-on-1 intro session - we look at your squat, deadlift, press, and a couple of basic conditioning patterns to see where you are. No judgment, just data. Most people are surprised how much they actually can do.

Week 1: Three classes, all scaled to your starting point. You will leave each one tired but not destroyed. That is on purpose - if you are wrecked the day after every workout, the cycle breaks. We aim for you to want to come back tomorrow.

Weeks 2-4: You start to recognize the warm-up flow, the strength template, and the way the coach calls time during the WOD. Most members notice better sleep, energy, and mood by week 3. Strength numbers usually start moving by the end of the cycle.

By day 30, you have a baseline on every major lift, you know two or three other members by name, and the gym is no longer a thing you "have to do" - it is part of your week.

How we compare to other Belltown gyms

Belltown has Orangetheory, Planet Fitness, several yoga and pilates studios, and a few independent gyms. Here is the honest positioning: Orangetheory gives you heart-rate-based group cardio with light weights. Good for sweat, weak for strength. Planet Fitness is cheap and crowded - you are on your own with no programming. The boutique studios (yoga, pilates, spin) are great for what they do but will not build a deadlift.

Persistence Athletics is the only Belltown gym running coached CrossFit, HYROX, and traditional strength under one roof. CFL3 head coaches. Real periodized programming. A 7,000 sq ft facility with full Olympic platforms, racks, and turf. Free first class so you can compare for yourself.

Felix Athletics down the road is also good and runs CrossFit + HYROX. The honest difference: we program for hybrid athletes from day one, our morning classes start at 5:30 (theirs start at 6), and we tend to be the easier first step for total beginners.

Common questions about CrossFit at Persistence

Will I get hurt doing CrossFit?

CrossFit injury rates are similar to powerlifting and lower than running. The risk goes way down with coaching, which is exactly what you get in every class here. We never load weight that your form cannot handle, and we scale aggressively for new athletes. Pre-existing issues (back, shoulder, knee) get worked around, not into.

I am out of shape - is the first class going to crush me?

No. Your first class is intentionally scaled. You leave knowing you can come back tomorrow. The members who quit CrossFit do it because the first class crushed them; we explicitly do not do that.

How much does it cost?

Memberships start with unlimited group classes; drop-ins, packages, and personal training options are also available. See our pricing page for current rates.

Do you offer drop-ins for visiting CrossFitters?

Yes. If you are visiting Seattle and want to drop in, book online and let us know your CrossFit experience level. We will fit you into the class that matches.

What if I have to travel for work?

Most of our members travel. We program around it - we will give you a hotel-room or hotel-gym version of the week's workouts so you do not lose the cycle. Personal training is also flexible week-to-week.
