Who we work with
Most of our personal training clients are busy professionals working in tech (Amazon, Microsoft, Google, startups), small business owners, and Belltown / SLU residents who want a smarter way to train than whatever they're doing alone at LA Fitness.
Common goals: build a real strength foundation, drop body fat without crash dieting, return from injury, prep for a HYROX race, or finally have a workout plan that survives a busy quarter at work.
What a personal training engagement looks like
Most engagements start with a free 30-minute consult. We talk through where you are, what you have tried, what works for your schedule, and what you actually want from this. Goals are usually some combination of strength, body composition, better energy, return-from-injury, or sport-specific prep.
After the consult, we run a movement and capacity assessment. We look at your squat, hinge, push, pull, and a couple of conditioning baselines. The point is not to grade you - it is to know where to start so the program is calibrated. The write-up after the assessment becomes your first 4-week training block.
From there, you train 1-on-1 with your coach 1-3x per week. Sessions are 45-60 minutes. Outside of sessions, you get a program written for you to follow on the days you train solo, plus weekly check-ins. Most clients combine PT with one or two group classes a week to build community and add training volume.
Sessions per week - what fits your goal
- 1 session/week + self-led training: Best for already-trained athletes who want a coach to keep them honest, refine technique, and program around competing demands. Common for engineers with a long lifting background.
- 2 sessions/week: The sweet spot for most clients. Enough coached time to drive real change without dominating your calendar. Strength + conditioning split, or two strength days with self-led conditioning.
- 3 sessions/week: For accelerated body composition, return-from-injury work, or pre-race prep where every session needs eyes on it. Usually a 6-12 week block.
- Semi-private (2-4 people, shared coach): Same coaching attention at a lower per-session cost. Great if you have a workout buddy or want to bring a partner.
Your first 30 days with a Belltown personal trainer
Week 1: Free consult, then movement/capacity assessment. Coach writes your block 1 program. You leave with a clear plan, baseline numbers, and your first three sessions on the calendar.
Weeks 2-3: Two coached sessions plus 1-2 self-led sessions following the program. Movement patterns clean up. Most clients drop a couple of pounds in this window from training volume + better food choices, even without an explicit nutrition plan.
Week 4: Re-test the assessment lifts. Most clients see 5-10% strength gains on at least one major lift in the first 30 days. We adjust the program for block 2 based on what is working. The coach is honest about what is real progress vs noise.
Personal training vs group classes - which is right?
Group classes are the right answer for most people. They are coached, structured, social, and you get a full strength + conditioning program for less than half the cost of PT. If you can show up and follow direction, group classes work.
Personal training is the right answer when you need a fully custom program (training for a specific event, returning from a serious injury, working around a chronic condition), when you need schedule flexibility (your travel makes group classes inconsistent), when you want uninterrupted coaching attention on every rep, or when you have specific aesthetic or performance targets that need precise programming.
Many of our clients do both - 1 PT session a week plus 2-3 group classes. You get custom programming where it matters most plus the energy and accountability of training with other people.
Common questions about personal training in Belltown
How is your PT different from a chain-gym trainer?
CFL3 + PNL2 certifications, 10+ years of coaching experience, real periodized programming, and a written plan you keep. Chain-gym trainers are usually running you through whatever they thought of that morning. We are running you through a 12-week block that builds on the last one.
Can I do PT only, no group classes?
Yes. Standalone PT memberships are available. Most clients add 1-2 group classes a week eventually because the social piece tends to be a long-term retention factor, but it is not required.
Do you offer nutrition coaching alongside training?
Yes - both Ravi and Jacque hold Precision Nutrition certifications. Most fat loss / body comp goals require both training and nutrition work; we typically pair them.
I travel a lot - can my coach program around that?
Yes. Travel is the rule, not the exception, for our PT clients. We send hotel-room or hotel-gym versions of your program for the days you are out, and pick up the next coached session when you are back.
How much does personal training cost?
Per-session and package pricing varies. See our pricing page for current rates, or book a free intro and the coach will walk you through the package that fits your goal and cadence.
