Manny Raced HYROX Helsinki and Went Sub 90. Here Are His Real Splits.

Six years of showing up in Belltown, then 1:27:26 in Helsinki.

Manny has been part of Persistence Athletics for almost six years. 571 classes on the board, one of the longest running members we have. This spring he took that engine to Europe and raced HYROX Helsinki.

He crossed the line in 1 hour, 27 minutes, 26 seconds. Under 90 minutes, in a deep European field, thousands of miles from the gym where he built it.

I'm Ravi Dewangan, CFL3, owner and coach at Persistence Athletics in Belltown, Seattle. These are Manny's real splits from results.hyrox.com, and what they say about how six years of consistent training shows up on race day.

The race format

HYROX is the same race everywhere in the world: eight 1 kilometer runs, with a station between each one. SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, and 100 wall balls to finish. Your time is runs plus stations plus the transitions between them, which HYROX calls the Roxzone.

What the numbers say

The sled push is the headline. 2:08, ranked 155th in the entire field. That is what years under a barbell buys you. When the legs are already cooked from running, the racers with a real strength base pull away on the sleds, and Manny's squat and pull history showed up exactly where it should.

The farmers carry barely slowed him down. 1:58 for 200 meters with heavy kettlebells, moving through a station a lot of racers treat as a rest.

The running was disciplined. Seven of his eight runs landed between 5:15 and 5:39. That 24 second spread is the thing to copy. HYROX punishes people who sprint the first kilometer and donate it all back by run five. Manny paced like someone who respected the back half of the race. The 6:38 on run eight is the honest cost of the sandbag lunges before it, and everyone pays some version of it.

The scoreboard also shows what to train next. The SkiErg (793) and sled pull (754) were his two slowest stations relative to the field. Both are technique heavy stations that reward time on the machine and on the rope, not just fitness. That is a clean, specific target for race number two.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good HYROX finish time?

For the open division, anything under 90 minutes is a strong result. The middle of most open fields lands between 90 and 110 minutes. Elite racers go sub 60. Manny's 1:27:26 in Helsinki put him comfortably under the 90 minute line that most experienced racers chase.

Do you need to run a lot to do well at HYROX?

Half the race is running, eight 1K runs between stations, so you cannot hide from it. But steady beats fast. Holding a repeatable pace you can maintain after every station matters more than a quick opening kilometer. Manny held seven of his eight runs within a 24 second spread, which is exactly the discipline the race rewards.

Which HYROX stations reward strength training the most?

The sled push, sled pull, and farmers carry reward raw strength most directly. Years of squatting and pulling under a barbell show up there. Manny's 2:08 sled push ranked 155th in the entire Helsinki field, and his strength background from six years of CrossFit is the reason.

Can I train for HYROX at Persistence Athletics?

Yes. Our HYROX class runs every Saturday at 9:30 AM in Belltown, and it is included in every membership. We also run focused HYROX training blocks during the week. You do not need to be registered for a race to join either one.
